Reliable, Experienced, Tested.
Attorney John Elliot Flor grew up on a farm in the small town of Winchester, Tennessee. His family moved to Mystic Connecticut when he was in high school, where he graduated from Robert E. Fitch Sr. High. He then attended Flagler College in St. Augustine Florida where he graduated magna cum laude in 2003. During college he spent a year and half studying and writing abroad in Italy.
After graduating, he worked as a longshoreman for four years with the Martha’s Vineyard/Nantucket Steamship Authority. He spent this time docking and loading passenger boats and learning the value of an honest day’s work.
In 2007 Attorney Flor graduated cum laude from Suffolk University Law School. While at Suffolk, he participated in the Housing Landlord-Tenant Clinic where he represented indigent tenants against evictions and unscrupulous landlords.
Upon graduation, Attorney Flor became an Assistant District Attorney in Bristol County, Massachusetts. For over three years he practiced as an ADA in the Fall River and New Bedford District Courts. Both of these courts are among the busiest in the state of Massachusetts and Attorney Flor was able to try scores of criminal trials to verdict before juries and judges. This experience was an excellent training ground and made him into a highly skilled trial attorney. He has tried the gambit of criminal law practices from basic OUI and assault and battery cases to complex Motor Vehicle Homicide, sexual assault and arson cases.
In December of 2011, Attorney Flor left the District Attorney office when he was recruited to become an Assistant City Solicitor for the City of New Bedford. This recruitment was based off of recommendations he garnered from his work ethic and skills as a trial attorney. As an Assistant City Solicitor, Attorney Flor was put in charge of a multi-departmental agency that was tasked with the responsibility of going after unscrupulous housing conditions and irresponsible landlords. He directed this agency and waged a series of civil actions against unrelenting landlords in Housing and District Court. At the same time he was in charge of defending the City against personal injury suits, gun appeals and acted as the attorney for the City’s Licensing Board. In this capacity he regularly practiced in Superior Court and in front of the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission (ABCC).
For the last four years Attorney Flor has also worked as a private defense attorney. He has successfully defended clients against criminal charges and civil traffic offenses. Attorney Flor’s experience as a former prosecutor and assistant city solicitor allows him to have a confidence and knowledge that enables clients to obtain better results.
Attorney Flor prides himself on bringing innovative techniques into the court room and clerk hearings. This includes the use of multimedia and satellite imagery.
